Many years ago, I had a scary experience involving my eye. The next day at school, I told my students about it. I did not know at the time that this experience was going to become the stuff of legend. Every year since, I have told a slightly more exaggerated version, and I am sure that the story is by now as much my gruesome imagination at work as it is truth.
